What the app stores, what Stripe handles, and what happens before any advertising appears.

Last updated: 15 August 2026

The short version

Pretty Little Wiccan is designed to work without an account. By default, what you write and what you learn is stored on your own device, not on our servers.

If you sign in, you can switch on account backup. It is off unless you turn it on, and signing in on its own uploads nothing. With it on, your Book text, progress, favourites, cupboard, onboarding answers and any photos you have attached to Book pages are stored in our cloud infrastructure so another device can pick them up.

The exceptions are the things we genuinely cannot do on-device: taking a subscription payment, which is handled by Stripe, and advertising, which is planned for the free tier but is not running yet.

What information is used

App content you create: Book of Shadows entries, reflections written inside lessons and practices, learning progress, favourites, cupboard selections, onboarding answers and app preferences. This is stored locally on your device, and also in our cloud infrastructure if you have switched account backup on.

Account email and password: if you sign in for Plus, we store your email address and a securely hashed password so we can sign you in and identify your subscription. We never store your password in readable form. There is no username or public profile.

Subscription record: if you subscribe, we store your subscription status, plan, renewal date and the payment provider identifiers needed to check it. This is the only thing we keep on our servers about you besides your email address.

Payment information: if you subscribe, the card and billing details you enter go directly to Stripe. Pretty Little Wiccan does not receive or store full payment-card details.

Technical information: like any website or app, requests to load Pretty Little Wiccan involve your device sending standard technical information such as an IP address to the hosting provider so the pages can be delivered.

Who is the data controller

The data controller for Pretty Little Wiccan is Claire Collins trading as Pretty Little Wiccan.

Why it is used

To keep your Book of Shadows, progress and preferences available when you come back to the app.

To show the right content for your plan, so Plus material opens for subscribers and ads are not shown to them.

To take payment and manage a subscription, if you choose to buy one.

We do not use what you write for profiling, and journalling surfaces are not used for advertising.

Local storage on your device

With account backup off, app data is kept only in your browser's local storage on the device you are using. It is not synced between devices and we have no copy of it.

Because it is stored in the browser, clearing your browser data, using private browsing, or switching device or browser can remove or hide it. With backup off there is no restore, so please copy anything you would be sorry to lose.

Photos you attach to Book entries are stored on your device. With account backup on, they are also copied to private storage in your account, kept in a folder only your account can reach, and shown on your other devices through short-lived links. Deleting a photo, or a page, removes the stored copy too.

Account backup, if you switch it on

Account backup is optional, off by default, and controlled per device from Settings. The first time you switch it on, we ask whether the data already on that device should be added to your account. Nothing is uploaded until you answer, and example pages that came with the app are never uploaded.

When it is on, the following is stored in Pretty Little Wiccan's cloud infrastructure, held against your account: Book of Shadows text entries, photos attached to Book pages, lesson progress, completed practices, favourites, cupboard selections and onboarding answers.

That content is private to your account. It is not published, not shown to other users, not sold, and not used for advertising or profiling.

We do not claim we cannot read it. Access is restricted, but authorised technical and administrative access to the systems holding it is technically possible where it is genuinely necessary — for example investigating a fault, preventing abuse, or complying with a legal obligation.

Deleting an item hides it immediately and it is permanently removed from our systems 30 days later. Switching backup off stops further syncing; it does not delete the copy already in your account. Deleting that copy is a separate action in Settings, and closing your account also removes it.

Your subscription status is not part of backup. It is handled separately through your account and the payment provider.

Payments and Stripe

Subscription payments are processed by Stripe. When you open checkout, Stripe collects and processes your payment details under its own privacy practices and acts as an independent controller for that processing.

Stripe may set its own cookies or similar technologies for fraud prevention and to run the checkout securely.

We receive confirmation of whether a payment succeeded so the app can unlock Plus. We do not receive your full card number.

Stripe's privacy policy is published at stripe.com/privacy.

Advertising

Advertising is planned for the free tier so the app can stay free to use, but it is not currently active. The ad spaces you may see in the app are placeholders and do not load any advertising code or set advertising cookies.

If and when advertising is switched on, we will update this policy first, and any consent management required for your region will be in place before non-essential advertising or tracking technologies are used.

Advertising will not be shown inside guided practices, rituals or writing surfaces such as the Book of Shadows.

Third-party services

Stripe, for subscription payments.

Our backend provider, which stores your email address and subscription record and sends your sign-in link.

Our hosting provider, which serves the app to your device and processes standard technical request information in doing so.

There is currently no analytics, no tracking pixel, no advertising network and no social media tracking in the app.

Keeping and deleting information

Backed-up app data is kept while your account exists and account backup is on. Deleted records are purged from our systems 30 days after deletion.

Locally stored app data stays on your device until you remove it. You can delete it by clearing this site's data in your browser settings, which removes your Book of Shadows entries, progress and preferences permanently.

Payment and subscription records are retained by Stripe under its own retention practices and the record-keeping obligations that apply to payments.

Your account email and subscription record are kept while your account exists. Contact us using the details below to have them deleted; deleting them ends any ability to restore Plus on another device.

Your choices and your rights

You can use almost all of the app without paying and without giving us any personal details.

You can delete your local app data at any time from your browser settings.

Under UK data protection law you have rights over personal data, including access, correction, deletion and objection. Because we do not hold an account for you, most requests about payment data are best directed to Stripe, but you can contact us using the details below and we will help where we can.

You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk.

Age suitability (18+)

Pretty Little Wiccan is for adults aged 18 or over. It is not aimed at children or young people, and use by anyone under 18 is not permitted.

When an account is created, we record that the person confirmed they are 18 or over, along with the date of that confirmation. We do not collect dates of birth.

If we become aware that an account belongs to someone under 18, we will close it and delete the account details we hold for it.

Subscriptions are handled by Stripe and should only be purchased by someone who is able to enter into a payment agreement under Stripe's terms, or with the permission of the bill payer.

Changes to this policy

If the app changes in a way that affects your privacy, particularly if advertising is introduced, this policy will be updated and the date at the top will change.
