Understanding different Wiccan traditions

British Traditional Wicca

Gardnerian and Alexandrian lines require initiation by an existing initiate, work in covens, and keep parts of their practice oathbound. You cannot self-initiate into these.

Eclectic Wicca

A common form today: practitioners build their own practice from published sources, often solitary. Some initiatory Wiccans dispute whether this counts as Wicca. That disagreement is real and worth knowing about.

Other traditions

Dianic, Feri-influenced, Seax-Wica, Correllian and many regional traditions each have their own emphases, structures and entry requirements.

Choosing

Worth remembering

There is no single correct Wicca, but traditions have real differences.
